    Abstract: Starting from the retention equation of solute, the volume of mobile phase inside liquid phase chromatographic column, Vm, and its various measuring methods have been discussed. With the absolute adsorption isotherm of ACN on C8 bonded phase, the limitation of these measuring methods has been evaluated.
