Determination of 8 Phthalates in Plastic Toys by Ultrasonic Extraction-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

  • A procedure has been developed to determine 8 phthalates in plastic toys by the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) method. The samples were dissolved in tetrahydrofuran under ultrasonic extraction for 30 min in 40℃, and then precipitated by acetonitrile and analyzed by GC-MS, using an external standard method.The linear calibration curve was obtained in the range of 0.5~10 mg/L with a correlation coefficient of >0.995. The limits of quantification were 1.14~13.65 mg/kg and the average recoveries were in the range of 89.2%~103.8% for 8 phthalates with the relative standard deviations in the range of 1.41%~4.93%.The method is simple, rapid, accurate and can be applied to the determination of phthalates in plastic toys.
