Progress in Research and Application of Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry in Forensic Science

  • Owing to the advantages of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS), such as high sensitivity, less interference, good selectivity, suitable for simultaneous analysis of ultra-trace elements and determination of isotopic ratio, it is widely used in forensic science. The ICP-MS technology was used in heavy metal and harmful elements(medium) toxicity cases, food and drug environment analysis, traffic accidents and gun-related cases, and the analyses of heavy metals and trace elements. The method of sample pretreatment and the reduction of matrix interference were introduced, and the optimization of ICP-MS instrument parameters and collision reaction pool technology to eliminate mass spectrum interference was summarized with prospect of the application of ICP-MS in forensic science.
